Makeup to Go With Black and White Polkadot Dress

Black and White Polka Dot Fashion

Polka dot fashion is on every list for spring trends. I showcased it on my Spring Trends blog post and why it's a print that you should consider embracing. As I've confessed, I haven't always thought polka dots were appropriate in my wardrobe. When I was working, I didn't consider them serious enough. Luckily, I've come to my senses now that I'm retired.

Today, I'm teaming up with Deborah from Fabulous After 40, who I was lucky to meet on our cruise this last December and I have the photo to prove it. We are both showcasing a polka dot top, and I hope you'll stop over and see her post. Deborah is a stylist and image consultant and helps women over 40 "Tweak their Chic" and look "Age-amazing"! Her motto is  "Life is too short to be Frumpy" and she has been blogging since 2006.

Polka Dot Fashion For Spring

While I wouldn't say that polka dot fashion ever really goes out of style, it's certainly being showcased in all kinds of pieces for this spring and summer. Personally I have this black and white polka dot top because a friend gave it to me years ago. Since black and white are not the best colors for my complexion, I paired it with a pink cardigan.
The reason I kept the blouse in the first place is because I just love the flared waist. In fact, I showcased this top as one of the pieces to wear with wide leg pants in a previous post.

My Spring Layer

Because my polka dot fashion showcases this sleeveless top, I needed a spring layer for the day. This cape style cardigan is from a small business called Jacket Society. I met Nora at our first Forever Fierce get together in LA and she carries more than just jackets. One of the draws is that many of her pieces are unique and very versatile.
This cardigan was purchased many years ago, but it's so popular that she brought it back in stock in the cream color.

Cardigans are a go to for me at any time of year. Even in the summer, I need one whenever we go into restaurants or the grocery store. That's why it was the theme of my post on 5 different ways to wear a cardigan earlier this week.

Pink Accessories to Add Spring to an Outfit

Black and white are truly a classic color combination. Yet it's not exactly what I think about when I think of spring. Therefore, I thought adding pink to the mix would give a more springy vibe to the outfit.
Back when Nancy was part of the blog, the three of us all tried to add spring to a black and white top last year.

These statement earrings are made by a woman I met on Instagram named Pam. I have purchased a few pieces from her and in return she sent me this pair of pink earrings. Supporting the small businesses is always on my radar, but even more so at this time. What I really love is how her pieces are one of a kind.

My wrist is adorned with a mixture of bracelets from many places. I always figure if I'm going to wear a bracelet, it might as well show up, so for today, I think I have 6 non related ones on my wrist. One is actually my pearl bracelet because why not wear our pearls any day?

Insider tip: Stacking bracelets is not rocket science. It's the perfect opportunity to create your own color combinations for your wrist. Wear both your dressy and casual ones at the same time and see how well they mix.

Are Black Jeans Appropriate for Spring?

Even though we tend to think lighter colors for the warmer weather, I know there are many of you out there that love your black pants and jeans no matter what time of year. It's not hard to make them work for the warmer weather. Just add in lighter colors on top and with your footwear.

Another idea if you like to wear black all year long, is to add colorful accessories like we showcased on the blog years ago.

Insider tip: If your black jeans tend to get faded over the years, you can dye them with black dye. I wrote a blog post about how to dye your light colored clothing, but one reader suggested this option for black pants and jeans. One of my blogger friends, Kim, dyes her pieces regularly.

Spring Shoes

Living in Arizona now definitely affords me the opportunity to wear open toed shoes and sandals much sooner than I would have been able to in Colorado. Maybe it's not quite warm enough for shorts and sandals yet, but having my tootsies peek out of my jeans, is one way that makes me think springtime.

These pink wedges have been in my closet for over 6 years. I always think that wedges are a great way to wear a heel, yet tend to be more comfortable.

Insider tip: I notice in these photos, some scuff marks on the cork heels. Those are easy to fill in with an eyebrow pencil or shadow. No one will even know they aren't new that way.
